Nick Washington is a basketball player that can play several positions. Nick Washington has represented Puerto Rico in the national team Pre-Mini. Also, he represents the Puerto Rico Playmakers team that is coached by his father Todd Washington, Nick studied at St. John’s School where he averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks per game. Currently, studying at one of the most recognized and successful schools in the United States, St Benedict’s in Newark (New Jersey) where they have come out several NBA players like JR Smith (Knicks). This school is one of the Top 25 in the nation. Now in St. Benedict’s there is four Puerto Rican Basketball Players, Nick Washington, Arnaldo Toro, Joshua Colon and Edwin Cancel. Nick Washington will be graduated in the class of 2016 and he shared some words with Boricuas En El Basket.
(BEEB) 1. Who is Nick Washington and could you talk about your size, position, abilities and more?
(NW) I’m a 6’7″ student athlete that plays the small forward and power forward positions. I can lead, shoot, and rebound. I communicate pretty well. And I wish to continue to work on my handles to be able to dribble more.
(BEEB) 2. How were your first steps in Basketball?
(NW) I was not good. I was clumsy and slow. But I had something in me that would not let me be average.
(BEEB) 3. Before you signed with St Benedict’s where you studied?
(NW) I studied at St John’s School in Condado which was more for academics than it was athletics.
(BEEB) 4. How was the process of signing with St Benedict’s?
(NW) The coach gave me an opportunity to come play for his school last year and it was probably one of the best experiences playing with Tyler Ennis and Mike Young and being able to bring back three of my friends to compete at a high level of basketball is probably the best thing ever.
(BEEB) 5. How old are you? What grade are you study?
(NW) I’m 15 years old and I’m in the 10 grade.
(BEEB) 6. Which are your expectations this year at St Benedict’s?
(NW) Well I believe that this year’s team could possibly be better than last years and that I could be a much bigger impact.
(BEEB) 7. How you feel to be in the team with three more Puerto Ricans Edwin Cancel, Arnaldo Toro, Joshua Colon at St Benedict’s?
(NW) It’s fantastic knowing that three of your friends get to come on a journey of success with.
(BEEB) 8. What is going to be your role in the team? Are you going to be a starter or a backup?
(NW) My role is going to be a shooter on the team I have to be able to rebound and play defense on the best player on the team, no spot is guaranteed on the team but coach told me if I do all of the those things I could start.
(BEEB) 9. Have you ever represented the Puerto Rico team? If the answer is yes, which was your best experience?
(NW) Yes I have I have played since Pre mini and I would say all of them were fantastic I even go to represent an age group of my own but all were fantastic.
(BEEB) 10. What has been your greatest achievement in basketball?
(NW) Playing against top level and destroying them.
(BEEB) 11. What do you want for your future?
(NW) To play division 1 basketball at top level.
(BEEB) 12. Could you give some words for the fans of Boricuas En El Basket?
(NW) That to never quit and that there is always someone out there working harder than you and always try to win in anything you do.
